Land, Loss and Womb, Summer Auty
Somerset Art Weeks (SAW) venue
Round Tower Gallery
16 September – 1 October, Open Daily 10am-4pm
Land, Loss and Womb explores feelings of eco-grief for our dwindling natural world. Summer’s practice looks at the importance of having access to wild spaces and the impacts new build developments are having on communities and the environment.
Summer Auty is a Frome based installation artist predominantly working with photography, print and text. Her practice explores the importance of people having access to wild spaces and undeveloped land, whilst investigating the impacts new builds are having on communities and the environment. She worked with residents in Frome and it’s surrounding villages to explore feelings of grief towards our rapidly vanishing green spaces. She graduated from Central St Martins with a First Class Hons in BA Fine Art.
Through the program I hope to explore specifically women’s relationship with the land. I will investigate the similarities between the suppression of women and the destruction of our natural environment. I hope to work with a larger community across Somerset, hearing others experiences and promoting protection of our landscapes. I want my work to foster feelings of belonging, inclusivity and to advocate a more equitable relationship with the land.
