TheWriteDay monthly retreat
Second Sunday of every month, 10.30am – 4.30pm
TheWriteDay is for procrastinating writers to get it written ~ and put it right later. We give each other encouragement and support, but don’t share our work. We just write. Free tea, coffee, cake and soup. Only £16 for the day.

Filigree workshop – One Day ( 10:00 – 16:30 )
Yasemin runs Filigree Workshops in the Round Tower Gallery, Black Swan Arts in Frome, Somerset. This beautiful historic drying mill is now used as an art gallery and exhibition centre.
This one day beginners workshop provides an excellent introduction to this ancient wire shaping skill, teaching you all the key stages and processes of creating a pendant or earrings. No prior knowledge of jewellery making is necessary.

Wild and Fermented
Wednesday 3rd October, 6.30 – 9.30pm

Join Katie and Helen from Wild & Fermented as they share secrets and stories about the abundance of foraged food on our doorsteps. Learn about wild food and where to find it and how to make the most of seasonal allotment produce using lactic acid fermentation.
With talks and demonstrations from the Wild & Fermented team, participants can enjoy a delicious supper of tapas -style dishes and drinks showcasing fermented and foraged seasonal produce made by Helen, Katie and head chef Karina at the Black Swan Cafe.

The Arborealists & Guests Tree Talk

Tim Craven, founding member of The Arborealists, will give an illustrated talk on the group. A loose association of some 60 artists of diverse art practice who share the rich and versatile subject of the tree.
They are staging their biggest ever UK show here at Black Swan Arts over the summer.

Jewellery Making Workshop | 1 Day
Whether you are new to jewellery making or just want to learn a new technique, this is a course for you.
Linda will guide you into designing your own pieces of jewellery and encourage you to creating something you really want to make from stacking rings, pendants, earrings, bangle, cufflinks…..and much more. You will learn basic jewellery making skills in a creative and fun setting and walk away with something special made by you.
This is a great gift for either yourself or someone creative.

Bronze Casting Demonstration

Bronze casting demonstration to accompany The Chemistry of Bronze exhibition in the Long Gallery.
Demonstrations are weather dependent, due to the equipment/ process. A decision will be made around 11am as to whether it is able to go ahead. Updates will be posted on Facebook.
Summer Art Car Boot

The Summer Art Car Boot is a fabulous opportunity to buy original creations made by local makers. The car boot takes place once a year during Frome Festival and this year falls on the first Sunday. It is a chance to buy a unique piece of art made by a local artist, artisan or crafts person.

Artists Talk: Cicatrix
Long Gallery

We are lucky enough to have all three artists from the Cicatrix exhibition in the Long Gallery to give a talk about the exhibition and project.
Henny Burnett (installation), Prudence Maltby (drawing) and Susan Francis (film) will provide some background to this visual arts project “Offering an alternative insight into the legacy of The Great War.”
Young People’s Workshop: Idea, Matter, Form?

In your daily life, you may come up with many exciting ideas, without knowing how to shape it into a form? This workshop provides an alternative space to experiment, talk about ideas and share experiences.
‘Idea, Matter, Form?’ is aimed at young people aged 10+. It will run as part of BBC’s Get Creative event and Black Swan Arts Young Open exhibition. Led by Fiona Campbell (artist), Aya Kobayashi (curator) and Stephen Ives (Eastville Project Space). Combining art practices which interweave sculpture, audio and drawing- for participants to test their ideas.
With emphasis on the creative process, the workshop is an opportunity to explore notions about materiality and to experiment with sculptural elements and sound. Combining found and reclaimed materials with technology. We provide materials including; electronic instruments, sequence mics, found and reclaimed sculptural components.
‘Idea, Matter, Form?’ is the third of a series to engage young people in creativity. Sponsored by Visual Arts South West. It runs alongside Black Swan Arts Young Open, an exhibition which showcases a range of young people’s inspiring work.
