Mark Karasick

16 November – 24 December, 10am to 4pm, Tuesday – Sunday
Preview, Friday 19 November, 6 – 8pm

We are delighted to welcome Mark back to exhibit at Black Swan Arts. Part of his process for working out ideas is his use of photography. He often creates small numbers of prints and overpaints them with encaustic (microcrystalline wax and pigment) to work through potential directions before launching into the much longer process of creating a large scale painting.

For Black Swan Arts feature wall in our ground floor shop, he has chosen to share some of his botanical works. The flowers are quite centrally composed so that they become hovering objects of serenity for contemplation. Although the base of these works is Karasick’s photography, each work is unique in its own right as a consequence of the encaustic process.

The Old Bakery Artists (OBA) are based in Radstock and meet regularly in the Fromeway Inn, Radstock. They organise group exhibitions throughout the year in Bradford-on-Avon, Bath, Radstock and Frome to name a few. They also hold a bi-annual art trail around the Radstock area.

Closing down and Opening up
Frome Wessex Camera Club
Round Tower Gallery
5 – 15 November, 10am to 4pm (3pm close on final day)

‘Closing down and Opening up’, a photo exhibition.

The pandemic affected us all – and still does. We each dealt with it in our own way.

In this unique exhibition, 21 local photographers from the Frome Wessex Camera Club give their often highly personal interpretation of what it all meant to them. All of the photographs have been taken in the local area, ranging from landscapes to documentary, to abstracts. Each photographer created a short series that together tell a larger story; whether poignant, beautiful, or thought provoking.

In Pursuit of Spring
27 March – 27 June 2021

Black Swan Arts have joined forces with Somerset Art Works for our first exhibition since last year’s coronavirus lockdown. ‘In Pursuit of Spring’ has been inspired by poet Edward Thomas’ account of his journey by bicycle between London and Somerset to meet the arrival of spring in 1913.

Responding to various themes in Thomas’ book, In Pursuit of Spring, such as hope, change and renewal, around 50 Somerset Art Works members have created artwork to illustrate the Somerset leg of Thomas’ journey.
