Drawing Near the Light
Siân Cann and Sarah-May Rogers
Somerset Art Weeks Festival ‘SANCTUARY’
Round Tower Gallery
24 September – 9 October
In response to this year’s Somerset Art Weeks theme SANCTUARY, artists Siân Cann and Sarah-May Rogers present Drawing Near the Light. An exhibition of photographs and ceramics that express their experiences of hope, comfort and safety that they draw from their individual places of sanctuary.
Siân Cann
Through the ethereal medium of Polaroid emulsion lift, Siân shares her love for lighthouses as beacons of light in a tumultuous world. Reflected in her experience as a visually impaired artist and inspired by her time living and working on Lundy, where these coastal bastions become not only a place to weather the storms outside, but a space to make peace with the tempests within.
Sarah-May Rogers
Sarah-May’s sculptural ceramics are a response to her love of woodland spaces. Exploring the woods, she gathers fungi, twigs, leaves, berries. She then dips them in layers of porcelain to form intricate casts. These are assembled, along with hand modelled elements, into an immersive installation that echoes the calm beauty of the woodland.
